Developers from EasyA on VeChain have created a platform called Plumb that rewards users with B3TR tokens for their sustainable shopping efforts. Plumb emerged in fourth place in the VeChain and BCG’s hackathon in San Francisco and was developed by Clive Tsungu and Tom Rowbotham, who are serial blockchain entrepreneurs.
The VeChain ecosystem has seen an increase in platforms that incentivize users for engaging in sustainable activities, and Plumb is the latest addition. It was one of the projects that came out of the VeChain hackathon in San Francisco, which was organized in collaboration with the Web3 developer education platform EasyA. The hackathon was won by VeFe, a decentralized application (dApp) that rewards sustainable living.
Plumb has now officially launched and is rewarding users for their sustainable shopping choices. Users can scan the payment QR code with the Plumb app after making a purchase at a merchant store and instantly receive B3TR tokens as a reward. Plumb also has its own point-of-sale (POS) app, allowing users to make payments and accept them. The system accepts both fiat payments and crypto payments, ensuring that users who do not have a Web3 wallet can still participate.
Normally, users can exchange their accumulated B3TR tokens for VOT3 tokens and participate in decision-making within the VeBetterDAO ecosystem. However, with Plumb, users have the option to redeem their tokens for gift cards and other rewards. This makes it more accessible for users to participate, as they do not need a Web3 wallet.
While all the platforms on VeBetterDAO target profitable markets, Plumb focuses on one of the largest markets in the world. Online shopping is a popular activity, with over 2.64 billion people engaging in it, accounting for at least a third of the global population. Global e-commerce sales have reached $6.34 trillion and are expected to continue growing.
Plumb is part of a growing lineup of platforms on VeChain that promote sustainability. VeChain is a Layer 1 network that excels in real-world applications and usage, with sustainability being a major focus. There are various VeChain sustainability apps that target different fields, such as community cleanups and sustainable caffeine consumption. These platforms reward users with B3TR tokens, incentivizing them to contribute to a better world.
Incentives play a crucial role in this model. While many people want a better future, not everyone is motivated to actively participate. By offering incentives, such as token rewards, individuals are more likely to engage in sustainable practices, as they can experience short-term gains while contributing to long-term prosperity.
In terms of market performance, VET, the native cryptocurrency of VeChain, has gained 3.5% in the past day and 22.6% over the week. It is currently trading at $0.0293.
