IOTA is taking the lead in the ‘MISSION’ project, which is funded by the European Union and aims to optimize ship traffic and reduce port congestion. The project, in collaboration with the University of Southern Denmark and other European entities, is focused on addressing the high fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in the shipping industry.
Last year, Crypto News Flash (CNF) published an interview highlighting IOTA’s technological advancements in sustainability and climate protection, particularly its Tangle and ecosystem. The recent updates on IOTA’s commitment to global sustainability issues demonstrate significant progress, exemplified by their current partnership with the University of Southern Denmark.
Under the guidance of Julia Pahl, a lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering, the University of Southern Denmark is leading an ambitious research project that aims to tackle a major climate problem in the shipping industry. The MISSION project (MaritIme juSt in time optimiSatION) is dedicated to developing a communication and logistics platform to optimize ship traffic. This initiative aims to alleviate congestion outside ports, thereby reducing unnecessary high fuel consumption. The University of Southern Denmark is spearheading the project in collaboration with 30 European partners including universities, ports, shipping companies, and technology firms.
Expressing my admiration for this bold effort by the team, I recently tweeted about our journey towards a greener future. I highlighted IOTA’s participation in the EU-funded project “MISSION” and its goal to revolutionize ship traffic optimization, eliminating port queues and promoting eco-friendly voyages.
The project descriptions emphasize that shipping congestion is a significant issue that leads to high fuel consumption and increased CO2 emissions. With the support of a nearly 56 million Danish kroner grant from the EU, this international research project, in partnership with entities like DFDS, Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping, and various European ports, seeks to find a solution.
The IOTA initiative aligns with other sustainability-focused cryptocurrencies like VeChain, as previously reported by CNF in their partnership with Mercedes Benz to advance CO2 neutrality. Despite a stagnant VET price, these collaborations demonstrate the industry’s dedication to environmental sustainability.
The current price of the IOTA token is 0.3103, showing a 1.95% increase in the last 24 hours and an 11.13% increase over the past week. This upward trend suggests a potential surge in value, supported by IOTA’s involvement in the EU-funded ‘MISSION’ Project.
