The IOTA network is set to undergo a groundbreaking transformation with the introduction of the Stardust upgrade, which will bring tokenization and L2 smart contract chains to the network. Users who stake for Assembly tokens will be able to see their airdrops in the new Firefly wallet version. This upgrade, scheduled for 8 AM CEST, is receiving significant attention and has been endorsed by influential platforms such as Binance.
The Stardust protocol is a significant milestone in the journey of IOTA. It will create a duality within the existing IOTA network, with the main network adopting the Stardust protocol and an increased supply, while IOTA Classic will retain its legacy supply but also embrace the Stardust protocol. To ensure transparency, a verifiable ledger snapshot will be made available on GitHub. Node operators are advised to update their software to the upcoming Hornet release, version 2.0.0.
Once the network is live, the Firefly IOTA version 2.0.0 will be available. However, the official software support for IOTA Classic is currently lacking. Binance, a leading global crypto exchange, has expressed its commitment to the upcoming network shifts and the IOTA upgrade. While trading of the tokens will continue uninterrupted, there may be a temporary halt in deposits and withdrawals to ensure smooth transitions.
To enhance user experience and community engagement, users who have staked for Assembly tokens will receive an airdrop, which will be prominently featured in the latest Firefly wallet. After the completion of the Stardust upgrade, users will have immediate access to about 10% of the airdropped tokens, with the remaining 90% gradually unlocking bi-weekly over the course of two years. Importantly, users do not need to take any action to shift tokens or access the airdropped IOTA tokens.
