The Stardust update was released in early October of last year and introduced tokenization, NFTs, and layer two smart contract capabilities. Since then, the Foundation has been working on migrating users to the new version, with the official migration starting on Feb. 21.

To migrate, simply enter your seed into the app, and it will generate a new mnemonic and Stronghold file (make sure to save these as they are crucial for token ownership). It will also create a new Ed25519 address specifically for Stardust. The IOTA Foundation advises users to handle this new address with utmost importance, as it will be the new home for their migrated tokens.
Click the “Begin Migration” button on the app, and the process will start automatically.
Once the migration is complete, the Foundation recommends exporting the migration log for future reference. It is also essential to export the Stronghold file, as it is necessary for accessing your tokens. With this file, you can easily import your tokens to any supported wallet, whether it’s on desktop or mobile.
For users with Ledger hardware backups, the process is slightly different, requiring the installation of both the IOTA App and the IOTA Legacy App. However, the migration process is still straightforward, as explained on the IOTA website.
