IDnow has entered into a pioneering partnership, joining forces with a consortium of leading industry players to ensure compliance with the European Union’s Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Transfer of Funds regulations for Crypto Asset Service Providers (CASPs) and self-hosted wallets. This collaboration aims to revolutionize identity verification in the realm of cryptocurrency by introducing a system based on soul-bound tokens (SBTs), effectively addressing regulatory demands while safeguarding user privacy.
The consortium, comprising esteemed organizations such as the IOTA Foundation, walt.id, SPYCE.5, and Bloom Labs, is poised to tackle the intricate landscape of EU regulations governing AML and TFR.
Navigating Regulatory Complexities:
EU’s Transfer of Funds Regulation stipulates that all cryptocurrency transactions must include identifying information for both sender and receiver. Consequently, CASPs must establish protocols akin to traditional financial institutions for user identification during account creation and wallet registration. Yet, ensuring compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which governs the storage of personally identifiable information, poses a significant challenge. The immutable and transparent nature of Blockchain technology exacerbates these challenges.

To surmount these hurdles, the consortium proposes a groundbreaking solution: the deployment of soul-bound tokens (SBTs) for identity verification.
