Hedera Hashgraph (HBAR) is poised to enter the realm of space exploration through a groundbreaking partnership with SpaceX, as revealed by a renowned crypto investor and expert. The primary role of Hedera in this collaboration would be to facilitate cryptocurrency transactions in space. This development has the potential to revolutionize satellite-to-satellite payment networks and transform transactions across Earth and space.
In January, SpaceX plans to launch a satellite powered by HBAR into space, following the release of a NASA research paper on Hedera. The announcement of this partnership was made after Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano and a partner of Hedera in the DeRec Alliance, visited Elon Musk’s SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne. The news was shared on Swiss media.
Hedera was chosen for this venture due to its cutting-edge solutions that address the challenges faced by previous blockchain technologies. In a blog post authored by Shawn in 2023, it was revealed that Hedera has the capability to facilitate trillions of transactions per second, significantly surpassing Ethereum’s capacity of 12-15 transactions per second. Furthermore, Hedera achieves this level of performance while consuming 970,000,000 times less energy than Ethereum.
Shawn highlighted five key use cases for the application of Hashgraph in space. Firstly, the combination of Hashgraph technology with SpaceX’s Starlink can address the issues related to uncensored, fast, and secure internet connectivity on a global scale. Currently, Starlink’s internet access relies on Earth-based server infrastructure, making it vulnerable to targeted attacks or global disasters. Hashgraph technology can mitigate these risks.
Secondly, Shawn argued that Hashgraph can enable the tokenization of resources obtained through asteroid mining. This would involve globally financed extraction of resources from asteroids.
Thirdly, Hashgraph can be utilized to manage the space supply chain, allowing companies to monitor the carbon emissions associated with their supply chain and track the progress of rocket production from start to finish.
Fourthly, Hashgraph possesses unique capabilities for tracking and managing space traffic, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of spacecraft and satellites.
Lastly, the combination of artificial intelligence and Hedera enables the implementation of smart contracts for autonomous spacecraft and space vehicles. These smart contracts can make decisions based on real-time data, allowing spacecraft to autonomously execute maneuvers to avoid collisions or obstacles.
The CEO of WISeKey, Carlos Creus Moreira, has also confirmed the movement of Hedera into space. He announced that this mission will redefine innovation and will involve the testing of the exchange of SEALCOIN directly from space as a proof of concept. This development signifies a major advancement in secure satellite communication and the integration of blockchain technology with Hedera Hashgraph, paving the way for future space-based digital cryptocurrency transactions.
Furthermore, there are speculations that Cardano could also be partnering with SpaceX, as hinted by co-founder Charles Hoskinson. At the time of writing, HBAR was trading at $0.085, experiencing a 21% surge in the past 24 hours.
